Top 5 Tuesdays - Signs Spring is Coming

1. Daffodils - I buy a bunch around my Nana's birthday every year in memory of her. It's a good job I love her as they make the living room stink of pee!

2. Cherry Blossom - The house I grew up in and the flat we're in now have Cherry Blossom trees outside. Aren't they gorgeous?

3. Rain - if we get clear sunny skies then it's often counter-balanced with a few days of grey and rain

4. Lighter evenings - it's no longer pitch black at 4pm.

5. Stress - for uni students this is the last holiday before exams

Hygge CAL 2017 - Tips and Tricks

So I decided to join in on a crochet along - yes, I'm mad but this one is crochet (obviously) and a bit of embroidery/cross stitch! I was going to hold out but as soon as I got the email notification that they were in stock I caved! I bought the rainbow kit pictured above but love the look of pastel and mermaid too :)

The tips and tricks were released on the 8th February and it includes how to make a swatch to check your tension. I have made 2 swatches - one using the recommended 4.5mm hook and a 5mm hook as the swatch from the 4.5 was about 1cm too small. Oddly enough they have both come out to the same size - give or take a couple of mms. I did do the cross stitch heart on the 5mm swatch and considering just using the 4.5mm hook for better coverage when it comes to the cross stitch. What do you think?

On a side note, I've found the issue I was having with the virus shawl so that's been allowed out of the naughty corner. How are you guys getting on?

Top 5 Tuesdays - Things to accompany your stitching

1. Lowery Stand - I absolutely love it although it's not always used. I discovered recently that about 5 years ago there was a table attachment that is no longer sold but damn, I could imagine putting that to use too!

2. Q Snap Frame - I much prefer these over hoops as it keeps the stitching more taut.

3. A small jam pot - perfect for those ORTs

4. Daylight lamp - I got mine from Lidl 2 years ago for £12.99 and so it's so helpful when stitching on a night.

5. Stork Embroidery Scissors

Top 5 Tuesdays - Things that make me laugh

1. My other half - we're "adults" but sometimes the funny moments are when we act like children - should I be admitting this?

2. I have been known to get lost on youtube watching Graham Norton clips. I present to you one of my favourite clips - Penglings

3. Playing games such as Viscera Clean up Detail with the other half and friends. It's so infuriating when someone spills a bucket of bloody water when you've just tidied up but there can be glitches if there's too many bloody footprints which can lead to objects and even players flying through the air!

4. Internet Memes can be pretty good - one good site is the Classical Art Meme page on Facebook.

5. Bored Panda also has some funny pics

This was a hard one to put together as I couldn't think of many specific things that make me laugh - it would have been nice to have a few that didn't show how much time I waste on the internet :P

Top 5 Tuesdays - Quick stitches

I knew instantly which chart I would include after seeing this week's theme so let's get on

1. Welcome Baby - this is my go to chart for new additions to families. I can stitch this within 24 hours.

2. Good things - I have already stitched this once and am nearly halfway through another but you may remember it's sitting in the naughty corner for now.
3. Happy Panda Set

Top 5 - Water related charts

This was a tough one but let's give it a go anyway :)

1. Under the Sea SAL
I'm sorry, I don't have a picture for this one. It's a mystery SAL that is only 2 months in and the designer hasn't uploaded a recent image to the website.
2. Puddles of Love

3. Paradise Island

4. The Dolphins Domain

5. Tide View
I've discovered as I hunt for charts that I really like a large of amount of dimensions kits. If I ever win the lottery, I know what I'll be buying cross stitch wise :P

Top 5 - Food Related Charts

1. Baking Mouse

2. Mediterranean Flavours

3. Ice Cream Sundae Cup

4. Fine Wine - this might be a bit of a shoe horn but he's obviously hoping to wine and dine someone!

5. Mini Cake Basket

Top 5 Tuesdays - Animal Theme Charts

I'm sorry this is late! I love animal charts and there's just too many great ones out there so picking 5 will be difficult. I'll try and not repeat charts from other lists since they've had their moment of glory.

1. The Continent Series - there's 5 in this series so I'll just share an image of one. I have 2 of these, Australia, China and the US are missing.

2. Watercolour Octopus Once I've got a few things cleared from my stash and I'll be adding this guy and his turtle friend to it.

3. Mumma's Boy - unfortunately it looks like this artist has been retired so the link just takes you to the site I bought it from. I started this last year but have only done about 20 stitches of beige on beige so nothing exciting to show.

4. Polar Bear and Cub

5. Woodland Animals

Top 5 Tuesdays - Top 5 BAP's you would love to stitch

I'll start with a disclaimer - I consider any full coverage piece that would take years to do as a BAP even though I know some people fly through them, not naming anyone in particular *cough* Keebles World *cough*

1. Gamer Nouveau - I am in fact stitching this one, I'm just hoping I finish it! I haven't been able to give it much love recently.

2. LOTR Map - this chart has now been retired but I managed to get my hands on it before it disappeared.

3. French Coat of Arms - the main thing putting me off this one is that it's large and designed for 40ct! I'd give the 40ct a go if I can find some.

4. A Beautiful Light - I'd like to see the Northern Lights one day.

5. Awaken - this is another piece that I think would be a great reminder of my trip to South Africa.

There hasn't been much crafting going on as I'm not feeling to well but any crafting that has been done is secret :/

Top 5 Tuesdays - The last 5 films you watched

1. Rogue One - I've got to say overall this film is OK. It's biggest downside? The first half. It's slow going as it's setting the "scene" for the second half which is much more fast paced and action packed.

2. Tower Heist - I watched this for the first time in December and I found it funny, I don't think I've come across a Ben Stiller comedy that I haven't laughed at.

3. X-Men

There is a theme to my last few and that is due to the fact that I got an X-Men boxset for Christmas so have started going through the film, prepping for the release of Logan. I do like X-Men and many other Marvel films - bring on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I am Groot.

However, what I'm in two minds about going to see is the next instalment of Transformers as from the adverts it doesn't look like life is going well for Bumblebee and I just know I will cry like a baby if anything happens to him.

Are there any films that you're looking forward to or any firm favourites?

Mike Cup Cosy

I've finished my first cup cosy! I do like Monster's Inc so who better to start with than Mike Wazowski? It's a free pattern and there are more cute cosies available on that blog too so have a browse while you're there.
In the last 2 rows on the back I think I've accidentally increased somewhere so it's a little off but I don't mind, I'm just happy with the finish.

I started another intending it to be toothless however on completing the body my friend told me she'd made me one so I have a plain black cup cosy.
Any ideas on what I should do with it - keep it as it is or add something to it?

Unpick, unpick, unpick!

After handing in my lit review (Woo!), I decided in my sleep deprived state that I would have a night of gaming and crafting. One of the games I play has perfect time to crochet or cross stitch in between and I decided to go for crochet. I went from this:

to this:

You can't see it well on the first photo but there was something wrong with one of the holes in the middle and the fact that it wasn't matching up to it's neighbour was bugging me so start over I did. I don't mind so much as I was getting the hang of the pattern so hopefully my next go around will be better.

Yet another project that needs some unpicking doing is this Lizzie*Kate chart
I've gone one stitch higher on one of the letters and it's thrown the border off, I would wing it if I could but it's a border with repeats! Argh!

The cross stitch side of things may go quiet for a while as I'm working on a secret project that I don't think I'll be able to share with you until around summer.

What do you guys do when none of your crafty projects seem to be going right?
